Breast Cancer Tattoos

tattoo designs

Breast cancer tattoos invariably have a deep meaning to their wearers; they have either survived the disease themselves, have a loved one who has suffered with it, or want to make a bold statement in support of cancer research. Whatever the reason, the symbols and designs used for breast cancer tattoos show onlookers the strength and courage of the person who displays them.

One of the most common symbols you will see with breast cancer tattoos is the pink ribbon. Some people may choose to use this design by itself, but many prefer to mix it with other emblems of particular meaning to them. It is not uncommon to see a pink ribbon draped around a cross, dangling over a heart, or have the names of a loved one, and occasionally even dates; these often represent the time of diagnosis to the time of healing, and are frequently placed at the bottom of the pink ribbon, or around the curves. Another variation is to use the ribbon to create words of strength such as ‘hope’ and ‘faith.’

Some breast cancer tattoos may be memorials to those who have fought with this disease. These designs may also feature names and dates, and they often display a portrait of the family member or friends. These portraits may also depict symbols of importance to this person, such as family, objects of their interests or passions; things that represent who they were as people.

Many breast cancer survivors opt to tattoo over their scars. These tattoos can vary; some prefer to use them for anatomical reconstruction purposes, others may place a symbol of their survival, and some may simply use a bold design to mask the scar tissue. The latter two are often seen as a transformation, or a last step in their healing process. Although the pink ribbon is regularly seen in these pieces, many people prefer to shy away from it; they often feel that they want to express who they are, rather than what they have suffered.

There are many ways to represent support to those who are afflicted, and many ways to express strength throughout their battles; either way, breast cancer tattoos will always be a reminder to their wearers of themself and others who struggle.

Horse tattoos have long been a symbol of strength, grace and stamina, not to mention the fact that horses have only been a tamed species for a rather short period of ten thousand years; for that they are also an emblem of untamed beauty.

A perfect example of this is the black stallion, or Arabian horse. These horse tattoos exemplify the symbolism of a free spirit. They may also be seen as a symbol of protection, as Arabian horses tend to be extremely protective of their owners. One of the more popular ideas is to show a dark horse with a wild mane, rearing into a bright blue, but cloudy sky. A variation of this is to use the bust and front legs of the horse. This version allows for more detail in the face and mane.

Many horse tattoos feature the animal in action. Race horses are a good example of this, especially if the wearer is an avid enthusiast and has a personal favorite. The favorite may be depicted as leading the pack on the racetrack, or even shown with a garland around its neck. Other depictions can show that of a triumphant warrior riding off into the sunset, pulling the chariot of a Roman nobleman or Greek god, or the horse simply running wild and free.

Horse tattoos may also depict the many mythological creatures that were mingled with this creature. Centaurs are thought to be the best of both nature and civilization, being both man and horse. This dual nature has been perceived as a conflict of personality, leading to both the desire for nature and all of its beauty, and a thirst for more scholarly conquests. The centaur is coined as the beast and the teacher. This idea can be adapted into the image of a wizened centaur reading aloud to many small children within the depths of the forest. Another example is the unicorn. Although this design may be placed in very similar settings as a regular horse, this horned animal is usually seen in more fantastic scenes such as a green and blue starry sky, a snow covered mountain on a dark purple night, or racing towards a rainbow.

The great thing about horse tattoos is that you can not only express your fascination with these brilliant creatures, but of nature and all of its striking beauty as a whole.

Fierce, wild and camouflaged in the sun and the shadows, the tiger is said to symbolize ferocity, passion and strength. In most Asian countries, the tiger is thought to be the “King of Beasts,” and is seen as a symbol of power. Tiger tattoos often show an illustrated version of these meanings.

Many tiger tattoos are done in a realistic fashion; they often look as though they have been drawn whilst watching the animal live and in its natural habitat. Other designs, though, appear in a woodblock mode. These tigers are highly stylized; their shapes are long and fluidic. They may also appear in several different stances; on the prowl, lounging in the sun, and they may even occasionally be shown in a more languid manner, such as sitting under a tree while licking a large paw clean.

Tiger tattoos can depict the beast in nature. Not only can you create a portrait of a tiger in the wild, you can utilize the unique markings to combine it into its setting. One idea is to borrow from the flowing woodblock style and show the lines of the tiger as branches from a dark, or even burnt tree. You may also show the tiger melding in with the darkness of the night sky or brightness of a hot sun.

You can also choose from one of the many Asian symbols for your tiger tattoos. In Chinese astrology, the tiger is the third sign of the zodiac and can be seen in many different designs. You can pluck yours directly from the art seen during Chinese New Year. This tiger is often shown with a wild expression, large eyes in a round head, with a gaping, pointed tooth mouth. This design can be done in a variety of bold colors, but is seen most often in bright reds. Another example would be to use one of the many Hindu gods astride an exceptionally large tiger. Many people also like to use the tiger in position next to a dragon in the yin yang symbol. Both symbols of power, they tend to show the strength of both heaven and earth.

Your tiger tattoos may be a symbol of your own passion, or simply a sign of respect for this highly revered creature. Either way, you will find that this bold design will make a strong statement of who you are.
